Im Rahmen der Umstrukturierung einer ehemaligen Fabrik der Dätwyler Cables, zu einem Wohn- und Dienstleistungszentrum, wurden auch die angrenzenden Freiräume neu gestaltet. Das Projekt befindet sich in an einer Schnittstelle des baulichen Gefüges von Altdorf, wo sich die industrielle Vergangenheit mit den grossmasstäblichen Bauten zeigt, aber auch die Nähe zur historischen Kernstadt spürbar wird. Zentrum der Neugestaltung ist der Dätwylerpark. Er liegt an der Stelle eines abgebrochenen Gebäudes und bildet einen neuen, öffentlichen Freiraum. Bepflanzt ist er mit mediterranen Gehölzen wie Quercus Ilex, Morus alba oder immergrünen Magnolien, welche die klimatisch milden Verhältnisse von Altdorf nutzen und auf seine Lage als Tor zum Süden weisen. Um die Gassen der ehemaligen Industriebauten überraschen Gruppen von Birken, analog an ihren natürlichen Standorten an den nahen Berghängen. Auch einzelne Blauglockenbäume (Paulownia tomentosa), verzaubern die Besucher im Areal. Als Besonderheit sind sie in Altdorf und insbesondere in diesem Quartier, immer wieder anzutreffen. Oft nicht von Menschen gepflanzt und wild gewachsen, lieben diese exotischen Bäume das warme und trockene Stadtklima.

Loftpark, Altdorf

During the conversion of a former Dätwyler Cables factory into a residential and service centre, the adjoining open spaces were also redesigned. The project is situated at an overlap in the structural fabric of Altdorf. It reveals its industrial past with large-scale buildings and their proximity to the historical urban core. The Dätwylerpark forms the centre of the conversion work. It is situated at the location of a demolished building and forms a new public space. It has greenery with Mediterranean shrubs such as quercus ilex, morus alba and evergreen magnolias, which use the mild climatic conditions in Altdorf and refer to its situation as a gateway to the south. Around the lanes of the former industrial buildings, groups of birches are surprising elements that are analogous to their natural habitat on the nearby slopes. Individual paulownia tomentosa trees also enchant the area’s visitors. They are a special feature of Altdorf and can be repeatedly found in this quarter. Often they have not been planted by anyone and grow wild. The exotic trees love the warm, dry urban climate.
